Shishu Vihar

Shishu Vihar is an assemblage of infants, toddlers and young and new mothers for early introduction to spiritual education. Classes follow a modern structure of play groups where children learn through song, stories, arts and crafts, appropriate to their age and development. For effective learning outcomes, several props, music and an extensive use of colors, shapes and forms are utilized.

Bala Vihar

Bala Vihar aims at enriching our children (PreK – 12th) with the great knowledge of Sanatana Dharma through scriptural stories, games and activities. Classes run from September through June. Join us to learn about values and ideals with laughter and joy!

Study Groups

Inspired by the vision of Vedanta, several small groups of seekers meet locally, on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, to study and analyze their selected text in detail through interactive discussions, deepening their understanding. They seek guidance from an Acharya as needed. Special classes dedicated to women (Devi) are also available.

Vedanta Classes

Trained Vedanta teachers from Chinmaya Mission teach Adult classes on Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads and other scriptural texts. Attendees will learn about Yoga Shastra (how to lead life as an evolved individual) and Brahma Vidya (the nature of the Ultimate Reality).

Summer Camp

Geared for Children going into Grades 1 through 8, the campers immerse in theme-based learning in fun-filled age-appropriate activities for the mind and body under the guidance of trained Vedanta Teachers and youth volunteers. Camps are held locally in Maryland and Virginia chapters and typically are 5 days a week for a four-week period.

Geeta Chanting Competition

The annual Geeta chanting competition will be held locally at all chapters and is open to children, youth and adults. Both Chinmaya Mission members and non-members of the greater Washington DC area (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) are invited to participate. Everyone is encouraged to register and participate in a category that suits them.

A number of bhajan groups small and large, across CMWRC, gather to render joyful devotional hymns and songs to please the heart as they invoke the divine, during CMWRC events. Some groups also participate in local community events at temples and other venues.

Chinmaya Yuva Kendra (CHYK) is the global wing of Chinmaya Mission where youth learn to discover their true potential and achieve success. CHYK provides college students and young professionals a spiritual forum for the discussion, exploration and practice of Vedanta.
